What Is Tenax Cera Fluida?

A liquid wax that enriches color. Not a sealer, and no substitute for one.

Tenax Cera Fluida is a liquid wax for natural stone, produced by Tenax in Italy. It brings out the color of a slab and leaves a soft sheen behind, which is generally what somebody is after when they say a counter has gone flat.

Its method is the opposite of a sealer’s. Proseal and Hydrex sink into the pores and leave nothing above the surface. Cera Fluida rests on top as a thin film, and that film is the entire point of the product.

Sitting on top means it wears away. Use, traffic and cleaning strip it back over a matter of months rather than years, so think of it as a finish you top up rather than protection you install once.

It shows to best advantage on dark stone that has lost its depth, and on honed or aged surfaces where the color has gone chalky. A freshly polished slab gives it much less to work with.

Which Stones Can Take Cera Fluida?

Natural stone only, and never engineered quartz.

Dark granite gains the most

Deep colors are where a wax earns its money. Absolute Black, Tan Brown and Paradiso Dark all read richer once waxed, because the treatment lifts back the depth that dry stone loses.

Marble and travertine, on the right surfaces

Feature surfaces and wall cladding in marble or travertine suit it well, a Tagbilaran resort lobby as readily as a house. Seal with the appropriate product first, let that cure, and only then wax over the top if you want the added depth.

Never on engineered quartz

Treat this one as absolute. Wax cannot soak into a quartz surface, so it accumulates on top and yellows as time passes. Every quartz on the Cebu floor, from the Sapphire range to the Calacattas, wants no wax and is harmed by it.

Not on floors that get walked on

Wax makes a floor slippery underfoot and wears through along the traffic lanes, which leaves a patchy finish. Keep it to counters, vertical surfaces and features rather than flooring. A Cebu house laid with stone underfoot is better served by a sealer there.

How Do You Apply Tenax Cera Fluida?

Seal First, If the Stone Needs It

Because a wax is not protection, a porous stone takes its sealer first and is left to cure. Waxing bare stone gives you shine with nothing underneath it doing any work.

Apply a Thin, Even Coat

Spread it sparingly with a soft cloth. Wax is very easy to overdo, and a heavy coat dries streaky and takes far longer to buff out than two light passes would have taken in the first place.

Buff to a Sheen

Let the surface haze, then work it with a clean dry cloth until the finish is even across the whole area. Stop while the cloth is still moving freely rather than leaning on one patch harder than the rest.

Does Cera Fluida Change How the Stone Looks?

Yes, and that is the whole reason to buy it.

Yes. Of everything in our care range, this is the one product designed to alter appearance. It deepens color and lays down a soft sheen, and if that is not what you want, a sealer is the bottle you are looking for.

The effect is strongest on dark, porous stone and subtle on a bright polished slab that already throws back plenty of light. On a black granite gone slightly gray and flat, the change is unmistakable.

Try an offcut or a hidden corner before you commit. Waxed and unwaxed stone sit very visibly side by side, so it is worth knowing you like the result before treating a whole surface.

It is reversible only in the sense that it wears away, and it does not wear evenly if you change your mind partway. Do the entire surface or leave it alone.

Does Waxing Replace Sealing?

No, and mistaking it for protection is the usual error.

No. A wax film is thin, rests on the surface and wears off with ordinary use. It will not keep cooking oil out of a porous granite, and it will not hold back a red wine spill from reaching the stone.

The two products answer different questions. Proseal lines the pores from the inside and stays put. Cera Fluida sits on top and looks good. One protects; the other flatters.

They are not alternatives, and on a stone that wants sealing you want both, in that order. Seal, let it cure, then wax if you are after the depth.

Wax does nothing about etching either. Acid cuts straight through the film and dulls the marble or travertine underneath, precisely as it would on bare stone.

Stone Care Granite & Stone Polish costs ₱1,700 at the Cebu yard and brightens a polished surface as part of ordinary cleaning. It costs less and asks less of you than waxing, and it suits regular upkeep better than reviving tired stone.

How Often Should You Reapply?

Judge It by Eye

Wax has no equivalent of the water test. When the color looks flat again and the sheen has turned patchy, it is due. On a Cebu counter in daily use that tends to be every few months.

Clean Thoroughly First

Waxing over a dirty surface seals whatever is on it under the fresh coat. Wash down with a pH-neutral stone cleaner and let the stone dry right through before you reapply.

Do Not Let It Build Up

Coat upon coat without cleaning in between leaves a thick, uneven, yellowing layer. If repeated waxing has already clouded a surface, the Cebu branch can advise on taking it back to bare stone.

Is Cera Fluida a sealer?
No. It is a wax that rests on the surface to deepen color and add sheen, where a sealer sinks into the pores and stays there. If protection rather than appearance is the goal, Proseal or Hydrex is what you want.

Can I use it on engineered quartz?
No, and treat that as absolute. Quartz resists staining, so a wax has nowhere to go, gathers on the surface and yellows as time passes. Quartz asks for nothing beyond a pH-balanced cleaner.

Do I need to seal before waxing?
On any stone that needs sealing, yes. Seal, let it cure, then wax if you want the extra depth. Waxing bare stone leaves you with shine and nothing protecting the surface beneath it.

Will it stop my marble from etching?
No. Acid cuts through the wax film and dulls the stone below it. Nothing you apply prevents etching on marble, travertine or onyx, so keeping citrus and vinegar off the surface is the only real defense.

How long does it last?
Months rather than years, and less than that on a surface in daily use. Cleaning and traffic wear it back, which is normal behaviour for a wax rather than any sign of a poor product.

Can I use it on a stone floor?
We would advise against it. Waxed stone turns slippery underfoot and wears through along the traffic lanes, leaving a patchy finish that has to be stripped and redone. Keep it to counters, cladding and feature surfaces.

What happens if I put on too much?
It dries streaky and cloudy, and repeated heavy coats build into a yellowing layer. Thin coats, buffed properly, are the answer. Where a surface has already clouded, ask the Cebu branch about stripping it back.
