Why Choose Black Galaxy

Unique Appearance Bronzite flecks catch the light and move with your angle, and the scatter is different on every slab.
No Sealing Required Dense enough to stop liquids soaking in, which leaves no sealer to buy and nothing to reapply.
Heat-resistant Cookware straight off the heat goes down on the surface without scorching it.
Provides an Upscale Look A single-quarry Indian stone carrying the sort of name recognition that Cebu contractors and designers specify by choice.

What Is Black Galaxy Granite?

A dense black stone with bronze scattered through it.

Black Galaxy is a dense natural stone that takes its entire character from the contrast between a deep black base and the metallic specks strewn across it. Everything people like about it comes from that contrast, which is why it has kept its place in kitchens for decades.

In geological terms the stone belongs to the gabbro family and is not a true granite. Trade usage has applied the word granite for so long that it has stuck, and in practice what matters is the mineral structure, which is dense, tightly interlocked and extremely hard-wearing.

Star Galaxy is how European catalogs sometimes list it, and Galaxy Black surfaces here and there. Ask any fabricator in Cebu, though, and it is Black Galaxy.

What Are the Gold Flecks?

Bronzite crystals, a mineral out of the pyroxene family. Rather than being introduced during processing, they grow inside the rock while it cools, and that is why the scatter is never quite the same on two slabs.

Nothing affects the look of a finished counter more than how densely they sit. Certain pieces come across as glitter over the entire face, while others hold larger, sparser inclusions that sit closer to stars in a night sky.

Light behaves differently on each. Sparkle carries across a room from a densely flecked slab, while a sparser one passes for near-solid black until you are standing directly over it.

Where Does Black Galaxy Granite Come From?

Southern India, chiefly around Chimakurthy in Andhra Pradesh. It is that geology which yields the particular combination of dark base rock and bronzite inclusion, and no other quarry produces a convincing copy.

For a buyer, a single-source stone cuts both ways. Consistency in supply and quality standards is the upside, while the downside is that the genuine article carries a premium, and the cheap lookalikes doing the rounds of the Cebu market are usually another stone entirely.

Where Can You Use Black Galaxy Granite?

Almost anywhere in a Cebu house, indoors or out. Density and hardness together let it take on surfaces exposed to water, heat and constant traffic. The applications below are the ones we fabricate most often for Cebu clients.

  • Kitchen countertops and islands
  • Vanity tops in bathrooms
  • Reception desks and bar counters
  • Fireplace surrounds and feature walls
  • Stair treads and risers

Anywhere you want depth rather than a flat block of color, it belongs, and it does equally well outside, granite being UV-stable and proof against yellowing in the Cebu sun.

In a Cebu kitchen it works hardest wherever the light overhead is directional. Put it under spots on a bar counter or pendants over an island and the bronzite has something to catch, which a corridor of flat ceiling light will never supply.

What Slab Sizes Are Available?

Expect roughly 0.65 m to 0.90 m by 2.40 m to 3.00 m at 18 mm thick, varying with the cut and with whatever the Cebu yard is holding. As with any quarried stone, dimensions move a little from slab to slab.

Should your layout call for more than one, pick them together out of a single batch at the Cebu yard. Variation in fleck density is wide enough that a mismatched seam announces itself the moment it goes in, and hand-picking is the only dependable way round it.

How Much Does a Black Galaxy Granite Countertop Cost?

Cebu branch rates, which may change without prior notice.

Item Starting Rates
Black Galaxy slab ₱3,500 per sqm
Fabrication ₱500 per lm
Installation ₱500 per lm
Sink or hob cut-outs ₱500 per set

We bill cut-outs only where the installation is ours. Delivery is worked out from the distance to our Cebu branch. A Mandaue address counts as a short run. A crossing to Tagbilaran costs more, and it is quoted alongside the slab.

How Do You Clean Black Galaxy Granite?

Three habits keep the bronze sparkling in a Cebu kitchen.

1

Blot, Do Not Wipe

A blot lifts the spill clear of the stone, where a wipe merely spreads it over a wider area. That distinction counts most with calamansi, vinegar and tomato, none of them ideal on any natural stone.

2

Use Only Granite Cleaner

Residue from dish soap accumulates and takes the edge off the polish, and it declares itself sooner on a dark reflective face than a pale one. Use a pH-balanced granite cleaner and the problem never arises.

3

Always Keep the Surface Dry

Of every mark you will meet on polished black, a dried water droplet is the most conspicuous. What keeps the bronzite reflecting properly is a dry pass with a microfiber cloth.

Choose a specially-formulated granite cleaner over guesswork in a supermarket aisle.

How Do You Care for Black Galaxy Granite?

With nothing to seal, Cebu owners have three things to remember.

1

Skip the Sealer

Only a handful of granites are dense enough to manage without one, and this is among them. Apply sealer regardless and it can dry into a hazy film, as the product has nowhere to soak into.

2

Always Use a Cutting Board

Scratching the stone is not easy, but a knife dulls on it faster than on timber. The board is protecting your blades, and it stops the polish wearing unevenly where you always work.

3

Never Sit or Stand on It

Hardness in granite comes with zero flex, so body weight on an unsupported overhang can crack it. Reach for a step stool when the light bulbs need changing.

What Finishes Does Black Galaxy Granite Come In?

Three finishes, with the flecks behaving differently in each.

Three: polished, honed and leathered. How much work the bronzite does depends on which you pick, so settle it before fabrication rather than afterwards. Let the Cebu yard know your choice when the order goes in.

Polished

Mirror gloss extracts the maximum reflection from the bronzite, so under pendant lighting the flecks genuinely sparkle. It is the standard finish, and the one that makes the stone what it is. The trade-off is that fingerprints and water spots turn up more readily than on either alternative.

Honed

Matte and velvety with no reflection at all, reading nearer deep charcoal than jet black. Subtlety replaces sparkle in the flecks, which suits anybody after the character without the shine.

Leathered

A softly textured grain that keeps most of the depth while hiding fingerprints and watermarks far better than the other two. More and more it is the choice for islands and bar counters in constant use.

Is Black Galaxy Granite Good for Kitchen Countertops?

Among the better natural stones for a hard-working Cebu kitchen.

Yes. Few countertop materials on the market tolerate heat as well as granite, and this one is denser than most. Over an ordinary week of cooking in Cebu, here is how that plays out.

  • Cookware straight off the heat goes down on the surface without scorching it, which engineered quartz cannot manage. A trivet is still worth using, because any stone can crack if the temperature change is sudden and extreme.
  • On a stone this hard, knife work, sliding ceramic dishes and daily cleaning leave no visible scratches.
  • No sealing is ever required, the dense composition keeping liquids from soaking in.
  • Fleck density differs on every slab, so your counter genuinely is unlike anyone else’s.
  • Small wear marks that a pale surface would display plainly disappear into the dark ground.

An island is where the stone earns its price. Bronzite comes alive under pendant lighting in a way flat ceiling light cannot manage, so the counter changes character as the day goes on.

Heavy use is the norm in Cebu kitchens, and between adobo, sinigang, vinegar and hot oil a countertop absorbs punishment that lighter, more porous stones cannot take. This stone is built for precisely that, whether it is destined for a house in Cebu City, a Mandaue condo fit-out or a resort kitchen over in Bohol.

Does Black Galaxy Granite Need Sealing?

Fifteen minutes at home in Cebu will prove it for you.

No. The density here keeps liquids out under normal kitchen and bathroom conditions.

A more open mineral structure is what makes Viscon White and Salt and Pepper genuinely benefit from sealing whenever the stone asks for it. Dense stones, this one and Absolute Black among them, do not.

Test it yourself. Set a few drops of water on an inconspicuous part of the counter, give them 15 minutes, then wipe. Darkening underneath means it is time to reseal, and with Black Galaxy you will find the surface exactly as it was.

Over the life of a Cebu counter that saves real money, with no sealer to buy and nothing to reapply. Where somebody has already applied one in error, a stone-safe product will strip the residue off.

Black Galaxy vs Absolute Black Granite

The confusion we field most often across the Cebu range, settled.

India supplies both, both sit at the premium end of black granite, and a quick glance will not separate them. Once you know what to look for, the difference is plain.

Choose Absolute Black if you want the counter to recede

Solid and uniform, Absolute Black carries virtually no visible mineral flecking. Across a room it reads as one unbroken surface, which is what you want when the cabinetry or the backsplash is meant to be the feature.

Choose Black Galaxy if you want depth and movement

Bronzite hands the surface something to catch the light with, so it shifts according to your angle and the hour of the day. Under pendants on an island that becomes a genuine feature rather than a detail.

On performance they tie, on price they do not

Hardness, heat tolerance and freedom from sealing are shared between them. Cebu pricing is where the two separate: ₱3,500 per square meter for Black Galaxy against ₱4,200 for Absolute Black.

How they compare to marble and quartz

Quartz also goes without sealing, though its resin binder scorches beneath a hot pan and it yellows outdoors. Marble offers veining that neither granite can imitate, but calamansi or vinegar will etch it on contact and it asks for resealing far more often than granite ever does.

What Colors Go With Black Galaxy Granite?

A warm undertone comes with the bronze flecking, and a Cebu kitchen should be designed around it.

White cabinetry is still the strongest pairing. Contrast lets the flecks read clearly rather than disappearing into a busy background, and cream or off-white achieves the same thing with a softer result.

Compared with a solid black this stone is fussier, since the flecks carry a warmth that certain palettes flatter and others resist.

Let the fixtures lean into that warmth. Brass, bronze and champagne finishes echo the bronzite beautifully, while cool chrome can end up slightly at odds with it.

Leave the backsplash plain. Patterned tile competes with the flecking, and both elements come off worse.

What Are the Drawbacks of Black Galaxy Granite?

Better known before you buy in Cebu than afterwards.

Three: fleck density varies, water spots show, and it can overwhelm a small room. Not one of them rules the stone out, yet all three are easier to plan around than to repair. They appear below in order of what they cost you.

  • Between slabs the fleck density is inconsistent, so on a multi-slab layout a seam where dense meets sparse shows immediately.
  • On the polished finish, water spots and fingerprints are clearly visible, which is a housekeeping reality rather than a defect.
  • Run across every surface of a compact Mandaue condo kitchen the stone can overwhelm it, whereas used as an accent it is striking.

Ignore the first of those and it is the one that costs money. Pick all your slabs together at the Cebu yard, and get your fabricator to plan the seam placement before a single cut is made.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Black Galaxy the same as Star Galaxy granite?

Yes. Most European catalogs go with Star Galaxy, and Galaxy Black appears in certain markets as well. The same stone from the same quarry region in Andhra Pradesh sits behind all three names.

When you are comparing suppliers around Cebu, quote by description instead of by name. Ask about origin and fleck density, since those are what genuinely differ between offers.

Why do Black Galaxy slabs look so different from each other?

Because the bronzite forms naturally, both its size and its spacing move from block to block. Depending on where in the quarry they were cut, two slabs at one price can read as glitter or as scattered stars.

Hence the value of choosing this stone in person at the Cebu yard. What a three-meter run will look like is not something a small sample can tell you.

Do the gold flecks fade over time?

No. Being a mineral within the stone and not a coating laid over it, bronzite has nothing to wear off or fade. Granite is UV-stable into the bargain, so the color holds outdoors as readily as it does inside.

The polish is what dulls with time, generally through soap residue or abrasive cleaners. Stick to a granite-safe cleaner and you keep the reflection that makes the flecks visible.

Can Black Galaxy granite be used outdoors?

Yes. Sunlight here will not yellow or fade granite, which makes it a sound pick for Cebu lanais, dirty kitchens and pool bars in places where engineered quartz would discolor.

For anything underfoot or out in the rain, think about a leathered or flamed surface, because a polished face gets slippery once wet.

How do you remove water spots from Black Galaxy granite?

A granite-safe cleaner followed by a dry microfiber pass will lift them. On a dark polished surface most marks are mineral residue from dried water rather than damage to the stone itself.

A dull patch that refuses to move is usually soap film, or a sealer someone applied by mistake. A stone-safe product strips either one.

Why this stone never needs sealing

Should you choose Black Galaxy tiles or slabs?

Slabs, for any countertop. Fewer seams mean a cleaner result and flecking that runs uninterrupted, which is the entire reason for buying this stone.

In a Cebuano home, tiles make sense on flooring, cladding, backsplashes and stair treads, where a smaller format is easier to handle. Tile a countertop and you introduce grout lines that trap dirt and break the effect up.

Is Black Galaxy granite outdated?

No. Demand for it in Cebu has run unbroken for well over a decade, which is unusual for any single stone and is the practical test of a classic.

Versatility is behind that longevity. The flecking registers as texture rather than as a period detail, so it sits just as comfortably with raised-panel cabinetry as with stripped-back modern joinery.
